Complete experience of Osa Peninsula: history, culture, nature!
No other part of Costa Rica contains as much gold as the Osa Peninsula. From pre-Columbian times to the present, gold extraction has had a great impact in the development of the Osa region. We invite you to participate in this 6-day challenging adventure which will take you along the entire Osa Peninsula, from North to South, to discover gold mining culture and experience Osa at its fullest.

Duration: 6 days (5 days of full activities, last day traveling out)
Difficulty: High. Good physical condition for strenuous hikes. Previous horseback riding and kayak experience recommended.
Arrival day: Recommended stay the night Sierpe or Bahía Ballena.
Day 1: Sierpe-Estero Guerra: Visit Finca 6 Pre Columbian Museum. Then, mangrove boat tour along Sierpe river to Estero Guerra. Stay with a local family and visit a waterfall.
Day 2: Estero Guerra-Rancho Quemado: Walk through a small dirt road surrounding by forest until arrive to Rancho Quemado. Just before arrive you´ll do a stop to have a demonstration of artisanal techniques of gold extraction used to find gold in the rivers and have a typical lunch prepared by the family. Then continue walking 5km more to arrive to Rancho Quemado.
Day 3: Rancho Quemado-Alto Laguna-La Tarde: Take a taxi to visit the Alto Laguna indigenous community to enjoy an indigenous cultural tour. Then, after enjoy in a swimming hole and have a picnic lunch, ride a horse through the river towards the La Tarde community.
Day 4: La Tarde-Playa Blanca-Sandalo- Dos Brazos. Take a taxi to Playa Blanca to enjoy a kayak tour through the mangroves and the beautiful calm waters of the Golfo Dulce until Sándalo. From there you’ll bike until Dos Brazos where you can chill out all the afternoon.
Day 5: Dos Brazos-Carate After breakfast, you will start your last trek, a spectacular and intense one- day hike through primary forest, hills and rivers until arrive to Carate.
Day 6: Carate-Puerto Jiménez This morning of the last day is for rest and in the beautiful Carate beach. After lunch, take the transportation to Puerto Jimenez.
